Purple Line Construction Updates
Summary of Major Impacts
Below is a summary of major pedestrian and vehicle detours on campus due to Purple Line and other campus construction. (Detailed construction notices are listed below this summary.)
- Pedestrian Detours: All pedestrian detours are ADA-compliant. See detour maps for details.
- Union Lane is open to 2-way traffic near the Stamp Student Union. See map for details.
- Campus Drive overnight closures: Campus Drive is closed from Regents Drive (near Symons Hall) to Union Lane (near the Stamp Student Union) daily from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next morning, except when there are major campus events. See detour map for details.
- Union Drive: Union Drive between Campus Drive (near the Benjamin Building) and Championship Lane is closed. See map for details.
- Rossborough Lane: East of Baltimore Avenue, the road is closed near Diamondback Drive.

Campus Drive Overnight Road Closures – 5.19.24-5.22.24
On Sunday, May 19, 2024 through Wednesday May 22, 2024, the Purple Line contractor will conduct overnight road closures of Campus Drive between Regents Drive and Union Lane. See below for closure schedule and the attached map for vehicle detour.
- 9 p.m. Sunday, May 19 to 5 a.m. Monday, May 20
- 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 21
- 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 22
As previously communicated in a May 14 all-campus email, Campus Drive will be closed all times of day starting Thursday, May 23 through Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
Cole Field House Sidewalk Closure – 5.16.24-8.20.24
On or about Thursday, May 16, the Purple Line contractor will close the sidewalk in front of Cole Field House (between Alumni Drive and the Driskell Center entrance) for approximately 3 months. See map for details and pedestrian detours.
Campus Drive Overnight Road Closures – 5.13.24-5.17.24
On Monday, May 13, 2024 through Friday May 17, 2024, the Purple Line contractor will conduct overnight road closures of Campus Drive between Regents Drive and Union Lane. The closure will occur each night from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning. See attached map for vehicle detour.
Regents Drive Overnight Road Closure – 5.1.24-5.7.24
From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting on or about Wednesday, May 1, the Purple Line contractor will close Regents Drive between Campus Drive (near the Geology Building) and Fieldhouse Drive (near Regents Drive Garage) for approximately 6 nights. See map for vehicle detour.
Sidewalk Closure near the "M" – 4.29.24-8.20.24
Starting on or about Monday, April 29, the Purple Line contractor will close the sidewalk between the “M” and the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Building for approximately 4 months. See map for pedestrian detour.
Campus Drive Traffic Pattern Adjustment – 4.22.24-5.22.24
Starting at 9 p.m. on or about Monday, April 22, 2024 the Purple Line contractor will divert traffic on Campus Drive in front of the Benjamin Building, to the roadway east of the Veterans Memorial Flag Court (near Dorchester Hall). This will last for approximately 1 month. See the attached map for the vehicle and pedestrian detours.
Alumni Drive Traffic Pattern Adjustment – 4.20.24
On or about Saturday, April 20, the Purple Line contractor will remove the long-term detour in place at the intersection of Alumni Drive and Union Drive and restore the Alumni Drive roadway and sidewalk to its original location. See map for details.
Campus Drive 1-Hour Road Closure – 4.20.24
From 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, the Purple Line contractor will close Campus Drive between Union Lane (near St. Mary’s Hall) and the Benjamin Building. See map for vehicle detour
Campus Drive Sidewalk at St. Mary’s Hall – 4.18.24
On or about Thursday, April 18, the Purple Line contractor will implement a long-term pedestrian detour on the south side of Campus Drive in front of St. Mary’s Hall. See map for details.
Lot HP (near HJ Paterson) East Entrance Closure – 4.17.24-5.8.24
On or about Wednesday, April 17, the Purple Line contractor will close the east entrance of Lot HP (near HJ Patterson Hall) for approximately 3 weeks. The west entrance will remain open for vehicles to enter and exit the lot. See map for details.
Temporary Bike Path Closure – 4.16.24-4.26.24
On or about Tuesday, April 16, the Purple Line contractor will close the temporary bike path near Hornbake Library for approximately two weeks. The adjacent sidewalk will remain open. See map for details.
Lot C1/Lot L Connector Road & Sidewalk Closure – 4.15.24-8.20.24
On or about Monday, April 15, the Purple Line contractor will close the connector road and sidewalk between Lot C1 (near Turner Hall) and Lot L (near Reckord Armory) for approximately 4 months. Vehicles will exit Lot C1 to Baltimore Avenue via Rossborough Lane. See map for detours.
Health Center Sidewalk Closure – 4.15.24-5.22.24
On or about Monday, April 15, the Purple Line contractor will close the sidewalk east of the Health Center main entrance for approximately 6 weeks. The main entrance will remain accessible from the west. See map for pedestrian detour.
Sidewalk Closure near the "M" – 4.13.24-4.14.24
Starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, Purple Line construction will close a sidewalk near the Engineering Fields and the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Building. The sidewalk will reopen at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 14. See the attached map for the impacted area and pedestrian detour route. Watch for construction activity and detour signs.
Regents Drive 3-Hour Lane Closure – 4.12.24
On Friday, April 12, the Purple Line contractor will conduct a lane closure on Regents Drive between Campus Drive and the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Building, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Flaggers will direct traffic. See map for details.
Symons Hall Service Parking Lot Closure - 4.10.24-6.10.24
Starting or about Wednesday, April 10, the Purple Line contractor will close the entrance of the parking lot behind Symons Hall for approximately 2 months. Delivery, service and emergency vehicles will enter and exit the lot using a temporary access road on the north side of Symons Hall. See map for details.
Regents Drive Overnight Lane Closures – 4.8.24-4.14.24
Starting or about Monday, April 8, the Purple Line contractor will conduct overnight lane closures on Regents Drive between Campus Drive and Fieldhouse Drive. The closures will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for approximately 1 week. Flaggers will direct traffic. See map for details.
Sidewalk Closure – 4.6.24-4.7.24
Starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, Purple Line construction will close a sidewalk near the Engineering Fields and the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Building. The sidewalk will reopen at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 7. See the attached map for the impacted area and pedestrian detour route. Watch for construction activity and detour signs.
Sidewalk Closure – 3.30.24-3.31.24
Starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, Purple Line construction will close a portion of sidewalk near the Engineering Fields and the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Building. The sidewalk will reopen at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 31. See the attached map for the impacted area and pedestrian detour route. Watch for construction activity and detour signs.
Spring Break Road Closures – 3.16.24-3.24.24
Starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, through 7 a.m. on Sunday, March 24, the Purple Line project
will close the following roadways for construction activities:
- Regents Drive between Campus Drive and the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Building
- Campus Drive between Regents Drive and Union Lane, and between Union Lane and the
Benjamin Building

Sidewalk Closure – 3.16.24-3.24.24
The Purple Line project will close a sidewalk near Symons Hall from Saturday, March 16 through Sunday, March 24, 2024. See the attached map for the impacted area and pedestrian detour route. Watch for construction activity and detour signs.
Driskell Center Sidewalks & Entrance Closures – 3.16.24-3.24.24
The Purple Line project will close the entrance to the Driskell Center on Campus Drive from Saturday, March 16, 2024, to Sunday, March 24, 2024. The sidewalk from Lot Z along Cole Field House will also be closed. See the attached map for the pedestrian detour route and alternate entrance for the Driskell Center. Watch for detour signs and construction activity.
Sidewalk Closure – 3.16.24
On Saturday, March 16, the Purple Line project will close a portion of sidewalk near the Engineering Fields and the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Building, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for construction activities. See the attached map for the impacted area and pedestrian detour route. Watch for construction activity and detour signs.
Lot HP Entrance Closures – 3.12.24-3.23.24
On Tuesday, March 12, the Purple Line project will begin closures of the entrances of Lot HP on Campus Drive for construction activities. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the lot will be maintained by keeping one entrance open at all times.
- The east entrance will be closed from Tuesday, March 12 to Saturday, March 16
- The west entrance will be closed from Monday, March 18 to Saturday, March 23

Regents Drive Overnight Lane Closures – 3.4.24-3.16.24
On Monday, March 4, the Purple Line project will install utilities at the intersection of Campus Drive and Regents Drive overnight from 9 pm to 6 am. Vehicular traffic will be maintained through the intersection but expect lane closures with flaggers directing traffic. This work is expected to take 2 weeks. See the attached map for the work area. Campus Drive Road Closure – 2.29.24
The Purple Line project will close Campus Drive between Regents Drive and Union Lane on Thursday, February 29, from 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m., for construction activities. See the attached map for the vehicle detour route. Watch for construction activity and detour signs.
Sidewalk Closure – 2.24.24
On Saturday, February 24, the Purple Line project will close a portion of sidewalk near the Engineering Fields and the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Building, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for construction activities. See the attached map for the impacted area and pedestrian detour route. Watch for construction activity and detour signs.
Campus Drive Road Closure – 2.23.24
The Purple Line project will close Campus Drive between Regents Drive and Union Lane on Friday, February 23, from 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m., for construction activities. See the attached map for the vehicle detour route. Watch for construction activity and detour signs.
Campus Drive Road Closure – 2.21.24
The Purple Line project will close Campus Drive between Regents Drive and Union Lane on Wednesday, February 21, from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m., for construction activities. See the attached map for the vehicle detour route. Watch for construction activity and detour signs.
Campus Drive Road & Sidewalk Closure – 2.7.24
Starting on or about Wednesday, February 7, Purple Line construction will permanently close a portion of Campus Drive northwest of Dorchester Hall. See the attached map for vehicle and pedestrian detour routes. Watch for construction activity and detour signage.
Baltimore Avenue & Rossborough Lane Partial Lane Closures – 2.1.24-4.19.24
Purple Line construction will continue at the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and Rossborough Lane through, on or about, April 19. One northbound lane on Baltimore Avenue and one eastbound lane on Rossborough Lane will be periodically closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lanes will be shifted to maintain traffic around the work area. The crosswalks across Rossborough Lane on the east side of the intersection will be closed. See attached map for detour routes. Watch for construction activity and shifting traffic.
Campus Drive & Regents Drive Road Closures – 1.10.24
Starting at or about 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, Purple Line construction will close Campus Drive west of Paint Branch Drive and Regents Drive between Fieldhouse Drive and the Clarence M. Mitchell Building for approximately two (2) hours. See attached map for vehicle detour route. Watch for construction activity and detours.
Campus Drive Road Closure – 1.8.24-1.19.24
Starting on or about Monday, January 8, 2024 the Purple Line construction will close Campus Drive west of Union Lane. Union Lane will be open to 2-way traffic. Campus Drive from Regents Drive to the Benjamin Building will be reopened for westbound traffic on Saturday, January 20. See attached map for vehicle detour route.
